This is a story about the power of love and how even the baddest among us can change...if they want to.

In a nutshell: Bada** rocker chick who drinks excessively and sleeps around and parties realizes her life sucks. Meeting Anabella makes her want to be a better person. But can she? After all, she just runs away, right back into that lifestyle as soon as the going gets tough.

I had a love/hate thing going with the heroine of this book. I didn't like her much at all until the last quarter when the book suddenly slapped me in the face and I realized what the theme was...bear with me here. I didn't like how Mandy runs away from Bella, leaves her to pick up the pieces, tosses her daughter in the arms of a nanny, and then proceeds to thrive on all their text messages and voice mails and daises, expecting them to love her, but not giving back. Not even picking up the phone to talk to them, but yet expecting them to call..etc.

I didn't like this chick at all. In my eyes, she didn't care enough about Bella to even keep up to date on the news.

And that is when the book shocked the heck out of me. Just when I was cursing Mandy for the upteenth time, I realized...while they were loving and supporting Mandy from afar, she, in turn, in rocker-girl-reformed-style, was also loving and supporting them.

And that is when I finally "got" it.

Love and support comes in many forms. Love can motivate the hardest of souls to change for the better. People can change if they want to. Sometimes it just takes a nudge or in this case, a kind smile and a sweet voice. And guess what!! I've known this, but apparently a lot of romance authors don't...you don't have to have sex with someone to realize you love them! *GASP* Call the Enquirer!

I was interested in this book because the love interest, Bella, is deaf. I am disappointed that she wasn't really IN the entire middle of the story, only the beginning and end, in person anyway. Throughout most of it, Many is loving her from afar. However, I appreciated the tidbits and looks into Bella's life of deafness. I love how she trained herself to sing, to speak in a nice tone, etc. I actually found it very plausible. As a deaf person, I'm fully aware of how self-conscious we are about how we sound. It does take some training. I appreciated this story line very much.

Mandy returns to her hometown after taking a break from touring because of a very large secret. Anabella and her family are an unexpected surprise to Mandy that remind her of who she really is and wants to be. Mandy and Anabella are exceptionally three dimensional and their strength is inspiring, particularly Anabella. Mandy disappointed me with the self flagellation and her down spiral, but I see where it was necessary for the story to have the emotional impact it does. The romance between them is incredibly sweet and overcoming of all obstacles. I’m not sure which character I fell more in love with. Sigh. This is an incredibly emotional read that will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love right along with the characters. The secondary characters play a vital role in the success of the book. They add depth and additional insight into what is happening outside of the main character’s head. Anabella’s family and Mrs. Wellington are characters that play the main supporting roles and capture your heart all on their own. I could read a book solely about them and be entertained. I highly recommend this book and entire series to anyone who enjoys a romance that surpasses all expectations.
At first I thought this was not going to be something I enjoyed. For starters, there were more kids involved than I prefer in my Lesfic reading. However, their roles were sweet and not overdone, so in the end they weren't a distraction. The "falling in love" was a little too quick as I'm talking just a few days, but it wasn't pushed and didn't fully come together until near the end so it worked out. And let's face it, the Uhaul joke isn't out there for lack of reason, especially when we're young. A few things weren't overly believable, considering the handicap of one of the leads, but I can hope, for all those who deal with similar issues, it's all possible. I have no experience in the world this revolves around so maybe I'm wrong, but from what I know, a little of it was far-fetched. However, it would have been difficult to make an enjoyable story where we could connect with the second lead character in a first person setting if not carried out in the manner it was and I've read another story with similar concepts regarding deafness so maybe it's all possible. The sci-fi references were perfection. Any lesbian worth her weight in gold should pick up on them, from Firefly to Dr Who to even a little Buffy if you're really paying attention and so on. Some may consider portions of the story a little cheesy, but in its own way that's part of what made it so sweet and I don't like cheesy so you can take it from me. The story was well thought out so it all tied together nicely. There's quite a bit of humor, some within the story itself and the rest in the lead character's head as it is written from a first person perspective, which I don't always enjoy, but it works well here as the author also gives you enough insight into the other characters so you don't feel you are in the dark on their thoughts as with some first person stories. There were a few little typo & grammatical errors, but by no means enough to distract and far less than some I've read. My biggest note to the author is to learn the difference between, lead and led. As the lead character, I can lead you to water, but I led you there yesterday and it was contaminated with lead. Get it, got it? Ok. Over-all it's a sweet story, with a lot of heart and a good message. With the right influences anyone can change, bullying needs to be eradicated, equal rights for all who are different, whether due to sexual orientation or handicap. A light enjoyable read.
